Stunning collection of 8 Fred Press glasses hand painted in 22k gold with the American Eagle crest, all signed Fred Press, the highly acclaimed mid-century designer that revolutionised New York’s Fifth Avenue giftware industry. Remarkable good condition for their age, only minor losses to decoration, please check detailed photos provided and request more if required. The glasses are approximately 14cm. 5 1/2″ tall with rim diameter of 7cm (2 3/4″). Price is for the entire collection of 8 glasses. Happy to answer any questions and provide additional photos. Fred Press was born in Boston, MA in 1919. He studied and later taught at the Vesper George School of Art and was the founder of the sculpture collection Contemporary Arts, Inc. In the 1950s, Press moved to New York City where he became chief designer for Rubel and Co. And turned his artistic skills towards glassware and giftware. He was one of the most versatile and prolific of America’s 20th Century designers. Press produced hundreds of sculptures and paintings (which are part of the permanent collection of Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts) in addition to numerous glassware designs. His product designs won awards from New York’s Museum of Modern Art. His unique products and glassware remain popular today. Fred Press died in 2012. Thank you for looking.
