1949 BULOVA AMERICAN EAGLE Deco Gold F Vintage Watch / 71 years old / SERVICED
Please take a look at my other watches currently available. 1949 VINTAGE BULOVA AMERICAN EAGLE GENTLEMANS (OR LADYS) WRIST WATCH IN VERY GOOD USED CONDITION THROUGHOUT. JUST OVERHAULED TO INCLUDE FULL MOVEMENT SERVICE WITH NEW MAINSPRING. NEW CRYSTAL AND LEATHER STRAP. Beautiful 71-year-old vintage BULOVA AMERICAN EAGLE gentlemans wrist watch. This model is very similar to the more widely-seen His Excellency range, but with subtle differences and slightly longer lugs. As a collector of Bulova and other vintage watches, I would consider this to be slightly more rare and exclusive. Although originally a gentlemans watch, please be aware of its smaller size, which now makes it suitable to be worn by a woman see detailed measurements below. The 21-jewel movement has just been. FULLY SERVICED, CLEANED AND OILED ON 27th FEBRUARY 2020, including a new mainspring. The watch is running well with all functions working correctly and is keeping good time. This is a stunning piece of historic, functional jewellery which looks fabulous on the wrist and also represents a sound investment for the future. Please bear in mind also that the enlarged photos are magnified many times and show every imperfection, many of which are unnoticeable to the naked eye. 21-jewel BULOVA 7AK movement JUST SERVICED, CLEANED AND FRESHLY OILED (see photo of stripped movement parts). Supplied in a plain black presentation/gift box with operating instructions. Please be aware that vintage mechanical watches do not as accurate as modern quartz watches and are NOT waterproof. SIZE 23mm wide, excluding crown x 37mm total length. Although a gentlemans watch, this may be considered small for a man by modern standards. Vintage watches were made smaller than those of today and this might also suit a ladys wrist. Please study the following detailed measurements and compare them on a ruler so that you understand its size before purchasing. Width: 23mm at the shoulders/lugs, narrowing slightly to 21mm, excluding crown. Length: 28mm without the lugs; 37mm total length to tips of the lugs. Thickness: 8mm, including crystal. Viewable dial/crystal: 17.6mm x 21.6mm. Strap: 16mm wide, tapering slightly to 14mm at the buckle. Wrist fitting: The watch should fit a wrist size of between 165mm and 190mm. The above dimensions are approximate. 10k Yellow Gold Filled in very good. The 10k gold-filled two-part case looks excellent for its 71 years, showing the usual light surface scratches and signs of careful use one would expect, but no wear to the plating that I can see, nor any other notable flaws. Please study the close-up photos. The outside back is signed 10k GOLD FILLED BULOVA, plus the A9 date code for 1949. The inside is signed BULOVA FIFTH AVE NEW YORK. The case-back fits perfectly to the top, snapping on tightly and securely with no gaps. The case has been ultrasonically cleaned to remove decades of ingrained dirt from all the crevices and to sanitise for the new owner. The plexiglass crystal is a brand-new replacement just fitted, as is the chestnut brown leather strap, which completes the restoration of this beautiful watch. The dial looks to be original and unrestored and presents very nicely overall. There are a few light marks around the centre of the dial seen on close examination. The raised gilt markers, and modern-style hands are bright and shining and the printed BULOVA signature, minute chapter track and second-hand sub-dial are intact and in good shape. Most watch collectors would agree that an original dial like this, even with a few tiny marks, will add notable value compared with a dial that has been restored at any time in the past. Good quality 21-jewel American-made Bulova 7AK mechanical hand-wound movement SERVICED, CLEANED AND OILED including a NEW MAINSPRING on 27th February 2020. It is running well with strong amplitude of the balance and keeping good time (please see note below about vintage watch timekeeping). This watch is powered by a high-quality BULOVA 21-jewel 7AK hand-wound mechanical movement. With its 21 jewels, this model would have been one of Bulovas top-of-the-range powerplants at the time and was manufactured from 1936 to 1949. It also features a Breguet hairspring, as used by other high-end watchmakers, including Rolex, and noted for aiding more consistent timekeeping throughout the duration of the wind. This movement is stamped 49 which shows it was made in 1949, the same as the case itself. For your further reassurance and added value, this watch has just been FULLY SERVICED, CLEANED AND OILED INCLUDING A NEW MAINSPRING see photo of stripped and cleaned movement as proof of service. The movement has been completely disassembled and all components ultrasonically cleaned and inspected for damage or excessive wear. It was then carefully rebuilt with a new mainspring wound into the barrel, lubricated throughout with the finest Swiss Moebius watch oils and grease, demagnetised, the beat adjusted and timekeeping regulated. The watch winds and sets smoothly with all functions working correctly, and is keeping good time (see note below about vintage watch timekeeping). Please factor this in the value of this watch if you are interested in purchasing. Please note that this watch will require winding fully once every 24 hours if you intend wearing it and occasional winding (every week or two) is recommended when not being worn. A general note on vintage watch timekeeping and reliability. Please do not expect quartz accuracy from any vintage mechanical watch. The accepted timekeeping tolerances for a brand new watch back in the 1940s and 50s was +/- 3 minutes a day and, unless otherwise stated, my watches should still keep time to within these parameters. Most perform significantly better. Timekeeping can vary by a few seconds a day according to the angle a watch is being worn on the wrist for instance, when it is dial-up or on its side. Also, a fully-wound mainspring delivers more power than when it has almost wound down, so timekeeping will likely be different on a full wind compared with, say, 24 hours later. If you wish to monitor timekeeping, it is recommended to do this over a 24 hour period. Wind your watch fully once only first thing in the morning, wear it all day and then place dial-up on on a bedside table or desk overnight. Check the timekeeping first thing the next morning and this will provide a good indication of its average timekeeping over 24 hours, taking into account the various positions it experiences overall, together with slight changing of power of the mainspring as it winds down. Bearing in mind what is generally deemed acceptable for a vintage watch of this age, if timekeeping does need regulating, please do not attempt this yourself take the watch to a local watchmaker. PLEASE NOTE: Cleaning and freshly oiling a vintage watch provides it with the best chance of optimum performance, but does not mean that the movement is then in as-new condition. These watches are many decades old and although w hilst disassembled during servicing, each component is carefully checked to ensure nothing is broken or damaged, there could still be some slight wear or other age-related idiosyncrasies which might affect reliability. Even if serviced, the age and complex nature of any vintage mechanical watch means that ongoing maintenance might be required by a local watchmaker its much like owning a vintage car. After this period, I recommend you source a local watchmaker/repairer who can keep your vintage watch running for years to come. Please message me to discuss BEFORE purchasing. Your watch will be very securely packed to help prevent damage in transit. For international buyers, your watch will be sent by one of the following methods, depending on location. It does not require a signature. This is available to 190 countries and is tracked to the point where it leaves the UK and then confirms when delivered. I always strive to provide 5-star customer service (see my feedback), so please be assured that if there is any issue I will do my best to rectify matters promptly and to your entire satisfaction. Any problem with the watch should be NOTIFIED WITHIN 14 DAYS OF RECEIPT. Many hours of work goes in to overhauling and restoring these beautiful old timepieces and I try very hard to get things right. Please contact me immediately if you are in any way unhappy and I will be only too pleased to help. Although very securely packed, on rare occasions turbulent conditions in transit can affect fine adjustment, causing timekeeping issues, which is why I always ask buyers to confirm they are happy with everything when received. Please do not leave negative or neutral feedback without giving me the opportunity to put things right. Just contact me as soon as possible, but within 14 days of receipt, please. Please note that photographs also form part of the description. Alternatively, I will provide you with the option of repair at my expense if the watch has been damaged in transit and is repairable within a reasonable timeframe. Please be sure to read the whole description, taking particular note of dimensions, etc. And study all close-up photographs. These watches are many decades old and, even if they have been serviced, can still develop faults at any time just like anything else old and mechanical. As a vintage watch owner, I always recommend sourcing a local watchmaker that can provide you with ongoing service and repairs as and when required. However, I will always be willing to provide advice if there is ever a problem, so feel free to contact me if you need to. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST AND IF YOU HAVE ANY FURTHER QUESTIONS I WILL BE VERY HAPPY TO HELP.
