Why order this 2018 1/10 oz. The series began in 1986 and has emerged as the world’s most popular bullion series. This is the smallest of four sizes of the coin, which also means that it is the most affordable. The coin was struck from. 9167 fine gold at the West Point Mint. Iconic Saint-Gaudens Design by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. The obverse of the coin features the design that many consider to be the most beautiful to ever have appeared on a coin. It is named for the man who designed it, Augustus Saint-Gaudens. At the center is Liberty, who holds her torch of freedom high as the wind blows her long hair and garment. She also holds an olive branch, a symbol of peace, off to her side. The Capitol Building is in the lower left, and the entire scene is set against a backdrop of the rays of the rising sun. Along the rim are fifty stars, four more than on the original design that appeared on the double eagle. A family of eagles constitutes Miley Busiek’s reverse design.
